Good morning!
An old friend recently shared something with me that I found too fascinating not to pass along. One of the first coins I ever collected was from a shipwreck, and coins like these often serve as excellent gateways into collecting! While I don’t think my friend is a collector, her appreciation for this particular coin is truly captivating.
Here’s the note she included with the pictures—thanks, Desiree!

This coin was discovered in a Spanish shipwreck from 1755. I wear it as a necklace to remind me of the things I cherish.
The shipwreck is located off the coast of my hometown, Vero Beach, FL. It was found by Mel Fisher, a treasure hunter my dad assisted with engine repairs. Mel always believed that “Today is the day” he would find the treasure.
This coin connects me to my dad, my love of the ocean, my hometown, and the significance of history.

Every coin has a story, but these stories can fade over time. It’s up to us to keep their memories alive!
