If you’ve been eagerly anticipating something exciting from Apmex, your wait is over. The 1/2 oz silver Great White Shark Coin from the Perth Mint has finally arrived! Time to celebrate! Everyone’s thrilled! And I have to say, it’s a really sleek-looking coin. Normally, I lean towards collecting older coins, but this one has me rethinking my choices today. Just check it out! It even features a SHARK on the back!

They were kind enough to send me a preview to show everyone — thanks, guys! Before we jump into the exciting giveaway (see the pun? “Killer” because it’s a *shark*?), here’s a quick review from yours truly, an award-winning connoisseur of awesomeness.

I’m giving it 4 stars across the board. Seriously, I couldn’t find any flaws. Even the reeded edges are perfect! (Or perhaps I’m just used to handling worn coins that are 200 years old?) Take a closer look at the obverse:

The coin measures 32.00 mm in diameter, 3.10 mm in thickness, and weighs 15.591 grams. As shown above, it features a detailed great white shark with silhouettes in the background, along with the Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mint mark and coin specifications. The obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the 50 cents denomination and the 2014 year date.
