Blood-Soaked Old U.S. Mint Bag?

Yesterday, while tidying up my office, I stumbled across an old U.S. Mint bag I had completely forgotten about. I picked it up at a yard sale years ago! I think it was used to transport coins between banks, like those armored trucks you see around town. I could be wrong, but that seems about right.

What stands out is the bold “RETURN TO U.S. MINT” printed across it—quite a bold feature! The bag isn’t currently at the Mint, and it has some curious stains. There’s dirt, mud, water stains, and… hold on a second, are those little red spots possibly blood? Could this bag have been involved in some sort of heist?

I can only imagine the stories it would tell if it could talk. It’s well-known that money and coins can carry all sorts of germs, so it’s a good idea to wash your hands after handling them! Unless one of you happens to be a DNA analyst, we’ll probably never know for sure. Are any of you?

I’ve attached pictures of both sides so you can see for yourself:

Although a brief look on eBay suggests these bags only go for a few bucks, who knows if some are worth more, depending on the bank used, age, or condition. Still, I thought you’d find this interesting. It’s not every day you encounter an item that might have been part of a heist!

Has anyone else discovered something interesting lately?
