In case you didn’t notice, I’ve recently rekindled my enthusiasm for coins and currency. 😄
For a while, I got sidetracked by things that didn’t really matter and forgot to enjoy myself. But after taking some time to reflect, I’ve started to appreciate my collection again.
One thing I’ve realized over the past few weeks is that there are bags filled with coins and currency hidden in the back of my safe, waiting to be explored! While it’s natural to always want more, it’s also important to appreciate what we already have, right? That’s something I’m really focusing on moving forward.
Today, I decided to dive into all these awesome packages people have sent me over the years and document them here on this blog. I honestly can’t remember what’s in most of them, but I love seeing the different containers they arrive in, pouring out the contents, and eagerly discovering the treasures inside. I doubt there’s anything particularly valuable, but it should be a fun process nonetheless.
Plus, this will help me get organized again and figure out what to keep, donate to other collectors, or save for future trades. There’s only so much space in my “special collection,” so I need to get back into the habit of having a system. I definitely don’t want to become a hoarder!
Let’s dive in!
This collection was handed to me by a relative of my wife’s during a visit. She had stored it for years, and when she found out I was a collector, she was eager to pass it on to me, which made me really excited to take it off her hands!
Here’s what the bag contained:
– British coins
– Canadian coins
– A ticket stub to a movie or play?
While none of these items have significant value (the silver coins are worth a few dollars), I’ve got $2.54 aside from the silver to spend during my next trip to Canada! 😉
When checking out foreign coins, it’s good to look for silver coins and see if the currency is still in use today. Depending on how much you collect, it can add up quickly. And since foreign coins are often overlooked, you can usually get them for cheap or even free—like when family members know you’re a collector!
[Note: I keep a few baby jars around for easy sorting. This way, I can easily find the coins when I visit a country or want to cash them in or give them to someone else traveling there.]
That’s it for package #1! I haven’t counted exactly how many are hiding in the back of my safe, but there must be at least half a dozen, featuring everything from foreign coins and currency to random U.S. coins and other forgotten treasures.
It’s like a treasure hunt right at home!
Why not try this with your own collections too? We’d love to hear about your discoveries in the comments below!
