Is This the Tiniest Coin in the World?

Say hello to my new little treasure—a 1½ Pence coin from Great Britain, dating back to 1836! It’s the smallest coin I’ve ever come across, and it’s absolutely adorable! I’ve decided she’s a “she.” 🙂

I traded for it at $27, though its value stands around $33 in “Very Fine” condition. Since picking it up, I can’t stop fiddling with it. I’ve been on a quest to find an even smaller coin in my collection, but so far, no luck.

With no loose change lying around, I dug into my “renegades” bowl—a collection of coins I’ve gathered over the years that are only worth their face value. They’ve either got paint on them, odd mutilations, or unusually thick edges. I just can’t seem to return them to circulation! 🙂

Anyway, as you can see, this coin is incredibly tiny. What a unique denomination, too—1½ Pence? I’d love to know its equivalent value in today’s dollars. Perhaps it was comparable to 50 cents? Nearly 200 years old, and you can still see many of its markings clearly. It’s quite remarkable.
