Our Town Is Being Overrun by Prop Money!

Good morning!

It’s been a while since we last posted here, but I just had to log in and share a new trend happening in our community.

Fake $100 bills are popping up everywhere, and nobody knows where they’re coming from!

I first encountered one at our local coin club when a member brought it from a nearby antiques shop. As he passed it around, half of us, myself included, couldn’t spot anything amiss initially. It wasn’t until we got some hints that the flaws became obvious, which explains why people around town are getting fooled!

They look convincingly real, and unless you’re specifically checking their authenticity or noticing how they feel (they definitely feel more like paper than money), you might not realize it’s actually “prop money.” This is the kind made for movies or TV, crafted to look authentic but isn’t.

I’m not sure if there’s a movie being filmed locally, or if someone decided to try their luck with these bills, but unfortunately, they’ve already fooled several businesses.

Take a closer look at the picture above and see if you can spot the clues that show it’s fake. Then, scroll back down here to see if you caught them all.

See the signs?
– “FOR MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY”
– “THIS IS NOT LEGAL. IT IS TO BE USED FOR MOTION PROPS”
– “COPY”
– “COPY”
– “COPY”

This side was done so well that even Photoshop gave me trouble when trying to open the image! It took me 15 minutes to find workarounds to finally upload it here.

I got one myself this week and couldn’t believe how real it looked. It was given to me as a gift, and I’m almost certain the person thought it was genuine. Little did she know, I was actually hoping for a fake to add to my collection! Lol…

Hopefully, someone will be caught for this soon, but in the meantime, keep your eyes peeled—especially if you own a business!

Take care!
